The last morning at camp is always hard work, with all the equipment to be cleaned and packed away until the next camp. It had rained overnight and all the tents were wet. After breakfast with all the Cubs and Scouts having packed their own bags we started to break camp and load the van.

Once loaded we all gathered around the flag pole to award the trophies from the camp.

Activity medal Cubs: Bronze – Daniel WARD. Silver – Erica SMITH. Gold – Alice PLUCKNETT

Activity medal Scouts; Bronze – Calum DENVER. Silver – Kirsty McFADDEN. Gold – Charlotte GOODING

Cub Camper – Erica SMITH. Cub Entertainer – Alice PLUCKNETT. Cub Chef – Finlay GUY

Scout Camper Girl – Alicia MAY. Scout Camper Boy – Joe ROBERTS. Scout Entertainer Chloe CALKIN. Scout Chef – Rhianna NORTHWOOD. Special Scout Camp Award – Joe RADDA. Fishing Trip Award – Kirsty McFADDEN

The final and top award is the Premier Scout Award which is the only trophy which is held until the next camp and the winners name is engraved on the shield. The winner of this award was Calum DENVER.

The final act at camp is a litter pick to ensure our campsite is clean for the next user and whilst the Cubs and Scouts clear the camp site the Premier Scout has the honour of taking down our camp flag to pack away until our next camp.

The week away was enjoyed by all all those that attended camp and as leaders we now have to consider what we do for next years Summer Camp.

I would like to thank those parents who joined us at camp for the final night and assisted in packing away our equipment. I hope you all have a great summer break and look forward to seeing you all back at Scouts in September

Today we went surfing at Boscombe beach. When we put on our wetsuits we had to wear tops and one of the colours was pink. When we started to go on our boards we had to do an Eskimo roll. After that we started to do some gliding, then we started to stand up on our boards and surf.

……It was AWESOME!!!

Finlay Guy

Today we went to Boscombe beach where we met three surf instructors. We started with a safety briefing and then learnt to paddle and do Eskimo rolls. Then we started surfing and by the end of the session, most of us were standing up on the surf boards. After we finished we spent the rest of the day on the beach where we had lunch and went swimming. Bill bought us ice creams.

Tonight we are having a Chinese take away and having a camp fire.

Oscar Dean

Today we went surfing the men gave us wetsuits and they were impossible to put on then we had to put on pink and yellow t-shirts. We had to pick a surfboard then we did some warm ups and practiced signals in the water. We went into the sea and were split into teams and practiced controlling the board. The man taught us to paddle and how to do an Eskimo roll and then we got to try and paddle and catch some waves. Everyone was able to catch a wave. After that we came back to the beach and the man showed us two different ways to stand up on the board when we went back into the water in the pink team Finlay and Joseph stood up on their boards and caught a wave. Everyone else stood up but fell off.

We had Chinese for dinner and I had chicken balls – it was good. There was lots of noodles and rice as well as sauce for the chicken balls.

Daniel Ward

Today for breakfast we had waffles at 8.30 and at 9.00 we went to the beach to surf. We had to put on wetsuits and a yellow or a pink t-shirt. Finally we went into the sea – when we had all the basics we had free time. At camp we ordered a Chinese take away – it was the nicest meal ever.

Today we went to Splashdown which is a big water park with flumes and slides and water stuff. It the ringo thing where you sit in an inflatable ring and go down a slide in sections. For lunch we had pizza as part of our Italian day. The pizza was nice, I had pepperoni, cheese, pepper, ham and some other stuff, I can’t remember what though. This afternoon we are going to play some games, probably. For tea we are going to have spaghetti carbonara which is very nice, even thought I haven’t eaten it today, but I think it will be lovely.

Joe Radda

We went to Splashdown. We had wristbands to show how long we had left, we had 2 hours. My favourite was the screamer, that was better that the other 8 rides. It was so fun. The scariest was the screamer. The coolest was the space bowl, it made you go down a big slide and there is a big bowl with a hole in the middle.

Jude Pike

Today we all went to Spalshdown. When we arrived at Splashdown we got our wristbands, then we got changed. There are lots of different slides and flumes but some of the best were: ground canyon, which is on ringos, screamer, which is really fast and has a really, really steep drop and space bowl which is when you go down the slide and into a big bowl with a hole in the middle which you fall through into a pool of water. After 2 hours we had to leave (sad face) and we made our own pizzas for lunch. At the moment we are all relaxing but in a bit we will play some games, have dinner and then sit down for campfire to sing songs and watch some sketches.

Today we went kayaking. We had breakfast at 8:00, however I woke up 25 minutes late so all I could have was special K and a tiny splash of milk. We left around 11 o’clock and it took a torturous hour of no signal and a crackling radio to get to Bucklers Hard. When we got to Bucklers Hard we had our packed lunches and after we had lunch we were kitted out with our buoyancy aids, paddles and boats. We took a quick 20 minutes for the instructors to show us some basics and then we went and played a game which involved bashing other boats and playing rock, paper, scissors!

Joseph Roberts

Then we were in a maze of streams and had to get to the edge of the woods. After getting stuck on the bank a couple of times we all stopped to play games. Making a raft with the kayaks we were labelled one and two. The ones (me) had to stand in the boats whilst the twos held the boats. We had to sing ‘The Grand Old Duke of York.’ When we sang ‘up’ we had to jump and when we sang down we had to touch the boat. We had to do the remix version which had a lot of ups and downs. When we got back from our session we were allowed to splash and capsize other people- I got Bill!

Alicia May

Today we woke up early to go canoeing. When we got there we made a raft out of two canoes, two planks of wood and some rope. When we got in the river everyone got the paddling timing wrong, but we soon got the hang of it. We then paddled up stream and where set the challenge of who could pick up the biggest jelly fish.

Jamie Ward

But we had to put them back by 10 seconds or they would die. After that we had to find the boat ‘Blue Moon’ but the other group beat us. The last challenge was the first one to get to the bank and jump off the pier and after that we had sausage and mash and athletic challenges and had a camp fire.

We were dropped off in Poole Harbour. We had about ½ hour till the boat trip so we went around the shops and had lunch.

It was then time for the fishing. We set of in “Just Mary” into the rough sea. After 45 mins we reached our fishing spot. We put our rods in the water and waited for the fish! Bill promised the first scout to catch a fish would win one pound. Unfortunately it wasn’t me! Hannah got the first fish in the first minute, closely followed by Alicia then me! We carried on and I caught 3 fish in the first section. Then we ventured to the second section. Again we caught more fish. Alicia caught 3 fish in one go. Chloe tried to kill Calum, she didn’t succeed, but she did kill the fish. Then we travelled to our final point. It was our last chance to catch as many fish as we could. We caught 62 fish in total. It was then time for the blood and gore gutting. We slit the fish and ripped out their guts. Blood was everywhere. The seagulls followed us and decided they would poo on Hannah 3 times. (Lucky her!) We came back smelling of fish but it was a great day. The barbeque is now on, just waiting for the coal to warm up to grill our catch!

Rhianna Northwood (The best scout in the world)

Today the older scouts went deep sea fishing while we went to Brownsea Island. We got there by travelling in a mini bus and then we walked to the ferry and sailed to the island. When we got there we walked to the stone and I got invested as a scout.

Oliver Crawford

Once the boat came we went to Brownsea Island and got invested at the stone where the first camp was. Before that we had lunch in a field where we made friends with a peacock, chickens and a goose.

We all got up around 7 o’clock and there were delicious pancakes for breakfast. We were all excited because it was Christmas!! Everyone put on santa hats, reindeers antlers and other unique things like Joe’s angel costume. At half ten we left to go to ski bobbing and ringoing. We got there at eleven o’clock and surprisingly quickly we put on our helmets and started racing down the slopes.

Harry Plucknett

It was a lot of fun except for going back up with the ringos but you got pulled up by a machine on the ski-bobs. For lunch we had sausage rolls, melon, apples and bananas.

Thomas Ewart

On the way back we stopped at Lidls (yey) while Bill and Rhinna had gone in we cranked up the music but….. the music was no good. Whilst we were on our way back a few good songs that came on such as Kings of Leon. When we reached camp we all had ice-creams (that’s why we went to Lidls!)

Olivia Gooding

Then at dinner we all lined up outside of the dinning tent and then we all went into our santa’s grotto and sat down and on our plates we had crackers and a present. Mine was a pair of neon pink boxers and Calum got a porch toy car. Oscar got a hat and Joe Radda got a T-shirt.

Mark Ward

Today we did crate stacking on site and it was fun. I went up with Harry and he fell off fairly high and then I got pushed off. When Ellie went up she just screamed and went mental and then fell off. Oscar and Hannah went together and when Hannah fell off Oscar kept going with his ‘Elvis legs’ constantly shaking and then fell off.

For tea we had delicious f… ph…. something wraps with chicken, onions and peppers with spicy sauce. For pudding we had some nice chocolate gateaux cake.

I am going to try and get my entertainment badge at the camp fire tonight. I am doing my act with Alice, Hannah and Marina.

We arrived at the car park at 10:00 ready to depart by half ten. It was an extremely sad moment as we departed waving goodbye to our parents. The journey was surprisingly short, even on a bus with an impossible window and a lovely sing along to broken strings (very funny)At arrival to camp we had lunch and then experienced two gruelling hours of putting up tents.
Chloe Calkin

Unlike last camp it wasn’t raining but lovely and sunny when we put up the tents. I helped cook spaghetti Bolognese for tea and didn’t burn ANYTHING!

Kirsty McFaddden

Then we all played rounders from 7pm – 9:30pm, then at 9:45 – 11:30 we had camp fire with loads of songs and Alice had cool and creamy!!!! Then poor Marina had to wash her hair in the sink! Then got to sleep at 11:45. I hope all days are as good as this one. Night Night.
