On Monday 30th November the Marlborough and BCC were off school for an inset day and so some of the Scouts took the opportunity to go for a leisurely hike from Kings Sutton to Tackley, a distance of about 16k. The day started cold and damp, not raining but still wet underfoot. They caught the train from Tackley just after 9.00am to travel to Kings Sutton. On arriving at the station we had some difficulty finding the footpath and after a false start we were on our way. We followed the towpath alongside the canal heading to Tackley. After about an hour the clouds started to clear and the wind died down giving us an almost perfect day for walking. We stopped at Somerton Lock for lunch and then set of again to be met at Somerton Road for some hot chocolate kindly arranged by Anne May.
After a brief rest we continued to follow the canal into Upper Heyford and a seat at the train station. As it was now the middle of the afternoon we had to increase our previously leisurely pace to get back to Tackley before it got dark. The final stretch of the path was wet and muddy and our tired legs sometimes struggled to keep us upright. We came off the canal path at Northbrook and over the fields to come into Tackley on the Rousham Road.
A good day out to set us off on our Expedition Challenge Award.
