We have decided to run another Sleep Out, this time on Friday 18th June, the Friday nearest to the Summer Solstice and shortest night of the year.
The sleep out will be a rough camp and will not involve using tents but you will sleep on groundsheets and, if rain is predicted, a tarpaulin for cover.
The sleep out will be weather dependant, the final decision shall be made by leaders by 1.00pm on Friday afternoon if the camp is to go ahead, if it is cancelled at this time you shall be contacted by phone and all monies shall be returned. The cost will be £6 per person attending, and this will cover the cost of a meal on the Friday night and Breakfast on Saturday morning.
If you wish to take part in this adventure return your form, along with full payment IN CASH ONLY, to Bill Denver as soon as possible and no later than Wednesday 16th June. If you have lost your form you can always get another from Bill.
If you are attending, arrive at the Heath at 6:00pm on Friday and be collected at 10:00am on Saturday. We shall have a hot meal on the Friday night and breakfast on the Saturday morning. Toilet facilities shall be basic.
In 2007 Scouting celebrated its centenary year and now in 2010 it’s the turn of the Scout Groups in Bicester and Banbury to celebrate 100 years of Scouting in our area, with the first groups, including the Heyford Scout troop, registering in May 1910. To mark this anniversary the two districts will be running a joint camp, to be held at the Horley Scout Campsite near Banbury.
The camp will be open to Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and will be over the weekend of 2nd – 4th July. If Beavers wish to camp they will need to be accompanied by an adult at a ratio of 1 adult for every 2 Beavers. The leaders will all be running activities and can not be the adult responsible for any beaver other than their own child. Adults sleeping over at camp MUST have a CRB form and if you intend to join us at camp and do not yet have a valid CRB please see any leader for a form, but don’t leave it to late. The cost for this camp is still to be confirmed but we need to know how many will be attending. Letters will be sent home soon but keep the date free.
Beavers, Cubs & Scouts will all be running as normal tonight despite the heavy snow in Tackley. All three sections will start and finish at normal times and the Leaders will be running an outside programme to make full use of the snow. So come dressed for the weather. Scouts should bring some dry trousers and footwear to change into for part of the programme will be in the hall.
Hope to see you all later
On Monday 30th November the Marlborough and BCC were off school for an inset day and so some of the Scouts took the opportunity to go for a leisurely hike from Kings Sutton to Tackley, a distance of about 16k. The day started cold and damp, not raining but still wet underfoot. They caught the train from Tackley just after 9.00am to travel to Kings Sutton. On arriving at the station we had some difficulty finding the footpath and after a false start we were on our way. We followed the towpath alongside the canal heading to Tackley. After about an hour the clouds started to clear and the wind died down giving us an almost perfect day for walking. We stopped at Somerton Lock for lunch and then set of again to be met at Somerton Road for some hot chocolate kindly arranged by Anne May.
After a brief rest we continued to follow the canal into Upper Heyford and a seat at the train station. As it was now the middle of the afternoon we had to increase our previously leisurely pace to get back to Tackley before it got dark. The final stretch of the path was wet and muddy and our tired legs sometimes struggled to keep us upright. We came off the canal path at Northbrook and over the fields to come into Tackley on the Rousham Road.
A good day out to set us off on our Expedition Challenge Award.
Q. Who managed to get hot chocolate into their hood?
It’s time for the Tackley’s Got Talent night, on Wednesday 16th December. The Auditions have given us five acts to entertain the Beavers, Cubs & Scouts.
The Auditions have given us a variety of acts and there will be a vote on the night to select the top entertainer. After the awards have been made it’s time for the after show party.
On Friday 23rd October, the Tackley & Heyford Scouts spent the whole day at Chessington World of Adventure. They certainly got value for their money as we spent 10 hours in the park and most Scouts went on over 30 rides each. The longest we waited for any ride was about 25 minutes. Attached are some of the photos and a short video clip of the day. It was such a success the Patrol Leaders are already planning a similar outing for next year.
